Update 28 May 15. The Festival was great fun! Read all about it in Noises Off! OAPF 2015 (a special edition).
Update 13 May 15. Clubs can now pay their OAPF bills by BACS/online banking. Details can be found at RAFTA OAPF15 BACS Payment Arrangements. We can now confirm that accommodation will be charged at a rate of £21 per room per night. Sadly, this will not be ensuite as previously mentioned, but the rooms are large, have their own sinks and 3/4-width double beds (no-one need spend a night in a 5’6″ long 2’6″ wide transit bed!).
Update 26 Apr 15. You can now see the RAFTA OAPF Awards List here. This provides details of the awards available at the Festival and what they are awarded for.
Hello my dear RAFTAfarians!
It is early April and the RAFTA One-Act Play Festival 2015 (OAPF15) will soon be upon us. This year the Festival will be held at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Shrivenham near Swindon (see Defence Academy website for directions). By kind permission of the Station Commander, Wing Commander Simon Twose, the Festival will be held in the Charles Grace Theatre over our usual late May BH weekend (Sat/Sun 23/24 May 15, with arrival and some familiarisations on Fri 22 May 15).
Seven RAFTA clubs have indicated intent to perform, bringing 10 plays between them, so it should be a cracking weekend of theatre! I very much hope that those of you out there who are not part of clubs will still come along to enjoy the highlight of the annual RAFTA calendar. The OAPF15 Entry Letter provides some more details; you might want to refer to this (or even copy elements from the OAPF15 Entry Letter Word Version). The key date you need to be aware of is 30 Apr 15; if you want to come, you need to tell the Festival Project Officer, Flt Lt Lissy Mason, by 30 Apr. This is to ensure that accommodation, food and security arrangements are all made in good time. Though we cannot confirm the exact accommodation and messing facilities that we will be using, you should plan for approximately £20 per person per night for accommodation and approx £3-£4 per meal for Pay As You Dine food (which is of excellent quality)
If you see this after 30 Apr, and still want to come to the Festival, please get in touch as we may be able to work something out! Lissy may be reached on 07772 304574 or else at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. If you cannot get hold of Lissy, please contact the Chairman (Andy Mitchell, 07941 071798, firstname.lastname@example.org and/or email@example.com).
We are very pleased to be welcoming Chris Jaeger back to adjudicate our Festival this year, and we are also excited about the challenges that a new venue will present. You might find the Charles Grace Theatre Stage Plan and the Charles Grace Theatre Technical Details of interest. Participating clubs have been provided with a map of the Defence Academy; for security reasons we have not placed the map here on our website. The key thing is that the theatre, accommodation and dining facilities are all within a few minutes’ walk and all ‘behind the wire’ (eg there is not the Cranwell scenario of a main road dividing the base).
I look forward to seeing you all at this year’s Festival.
